UNAIR NEWS – Field Work Practices (PKL) is one of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) Universitas Airlangga’s curriculum. The implementation of PKL aims to develop the potential of students in the field of aquaculture, especially in the aspects of practice. Furthermore, you should not rely on theory in lectures, it’s not enough for student in proffesional world.

Aquaculture Study Program in PSDKU UNAIR Banyuwangi for the first time on the period of 2018-2019 held PKL and lasted longer than other PKL that conducted by FPK UNAIR in Surabaya. UNAIR Banyuwangi aquaculture students carried out for 45 days, while FPK UNAIR Surabaya only 30 days.

The Head of Aquaculture Study Program UNAIR Banyuwangi, Prayogo, S.Pi., MP, explained that UNAIR Banyuwangi Aquaculture deliberately carried out PKL longer, because we wanted to improve the quality of student practices and improve stakeholders’ trust (government agencies, companies and private cultivators) towards Aquaculture UNAIR Banyuwangi.

“So far, some of stakeholders complained to me. ‘Why the implementation of PKL is very short, sir? ‘Because according to stakeholders, 30 days are short. Students just finished passing the adaptation period, so it’s not optimal for student in absorbing knowledge. Finally, me and lecturers agreed to change PKL duration into 45 days, “he explained.

Although, the PKL activity last 15 days longer than in previous years, students continue to accept gracefully. Because after all, these things gave beneficial experience for students.

Therefore, before carrying out PKL in each place, lecturer tried to prepare and train students. One of the preparation is writing PKL proposal. In there, lecturer always monitors proposals written by students.

With several preparations, lecturers of Aquaculture UNAIR Banyuwangi have some expectations for PKL participants in 2018-2019 period. Moreover, UNAIR NEWS summarizes some of the expectations of Aquaculture UNAIR Banyuwangi lecturers on PKL participants from 2018-2019.
