That was students and activists feelings of Islamic Economics study, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga who had the opportunity to visit campus in Thailand.
A lot of Islamic Economics UNAIR students were competing to win this abroad outbound opportunities given by the department. The opportunity were obtained finally by Dita Trisna Puspita, Fadhilah Nur Syafira, Nanda Zubaid, Ulis Fajar, Prilo Perdana, and Rahma Rabbi who was accompanied by Eko Fajar Cahyono (lecturer in Islamic economics study). They got an opportunity in Prince of Songklah University (PSU) Pattani Campus, Thailand.
There were some differences. In addition to language and transcription, Thailand has been known with a majority of Buddhism population. Meanwhile, Indonesia which has a majority Islam population. In addition, Dita Trisna admitted that in Thailand dogs can be seen everywhere and it causes fear.
Dita said that UNAIR delegation could get an opportunity to take classes at PSU by reviewing “Business Ethics for Islam” material. Especially by discussing the differences between Indonesia and Thailand about products labeled halal.
“In Indonesia a lot of cosmetic product, hotels, and travel that are labeled halal. So, this made students and lecturers at PSU startled, “said Dita while talking with UNAIR NEWS via Line.
In addition, UNAIR delegation had the opportunity to attend “Zakat and Taxation” class directly by Prof. Orawit Boonthom. Dita explained that the class was amazing because we can compare the process of collecting zakat between Indonesia and Thailand which Muslim in here are minority.
“Alhamdulillah, we were able to find out the difference in zakat collection, in Indonesia which has a government-sponsored BAZ (Amil Zakat Agency) and an Amil Zakat Institution that is regulated by community. Moreover, with the help of Financial Technology makes it easier for people to give back” he said.
The process of collecting zakat in Indonesia attracted the attention of students and lecturers there because in Thailand it was only collected in mosques, schools, Islamic banks, or before religious commemorations. Take a note, the government does not take part in collecting zakat.
Meanwhile, UNAIR delegation presented their paper directly in front of lecturers and students PSU. A lot of new insight to make a good research proposals also delivered. Especially knowing there were some aspects that still not good in the research that has been made.
“So, we were given the task of making research with different themes such as Rahma Rabi’s research ‘Marketing Mix (7P) Friendly Moslem Hotels in Indonesia and Thailand, “he added.
