“The Cupak village itself has an area of 71 hectares and has a population of around 937 people,” Winarsono said at the opening of Deputra at Cupak Village Hall, December 19.

In 2016, Cupak Village was appointed as  Family Planning (KB) Village by Jombang District Government. It is because the village has a population innovation that has been carried out by local residents for a long time.

Potential of Cupak Village

Aside from being a pilot of the KB village, Cupak also has excellent potential that is very interesting. Winarsono said, there are three great potentials in the village of Cupak.

First, Cupak Village has a religious area of Mount Pucangan. The place that has a relic of the Raja Airlangga site, is often visited by residents as a historical tourist place to find out the footsteps of King Airlangga’s journey with the existence of ancient tombs, one of which is Dewi Kilisuci.

“Most of them visited the tomb of Dewi Kilisuci, the only daughter of Airlangga, every Thursday Kliwon or Friday Legi,” he added.

Secondly, Desa Cupak applies inter-cropping patterns in the wide mountains. Plants such as corn, turmeric, and gadung are planted with terracing techniques in the middle of teak forests.

“Corn planted here is used as a superior type of bisi seed, and noodle flour ingredients by PT Ambico,” said Lastiyo, a village corn farmer in Cupak.

Third, is woven mat. Residents of Cupak Village use pandan leaves as a craft to woven mat and usually ordered to other areas such as Mojokerto and Surabaya.
