UNAIR NEWS – An achievement came from one of Universitas Airlangga lecturer. Yuni Sari Amalia, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., a lecturer at Faculty of Humanities (FIB) and Head of Center of Learning and Certification Innovation (PIPS) UNAIR. Yuni was one of 40,000 participants from more than 100 countries who attended FinTech Festival in Singapore.
The event was organized by Monetary Authority of Singapore awhile ago. The event aims to provide a platform for collaboration, connection and co-creation in fintech space.
Yuni as participant in Financial Technology Education Program which part of Temasek Foundation International, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, said there were three segments in Financial Technology Education Program. The first was a series of introductory workshops held in Bandung, Indonesia, the second was a workshop and FinTech Festival in Singapore visit, and the last was a hackathon workshop that focuses on innovation and ideas in education.
“My experience with this program began in the first segment where around 90 participants were chosen to represent six universities and polytechnics in Indonesia,” she said.
Yuni added that from 90 participants, 28 were chosen to attend Fintech Festival workshops and events in Singapore. According to Yuni, the program became an eye-opening experience for her.
In the past five years, internet-based companies in Indonesia experienced substantial growth. From e-commerce market sites to online travel platforms like GOJEK. A lot of businesses have utilized fintech payments.
According to data from Financial Services Authority (OJK), Indonesia has 165 start-up companies in 2016 which were a surprising increase of 400 percent from 2014. The country’s fintech sector has also seen opportunities emerging in traditional households. Apart from social media, many households use fintech application to promote their home business.
“These facts illustrate a bright future for fintech businesses in Indonesia,” he added.
At Singapore’s FinTech Festival, Minister of Education Singapore Ong Ye Kung emphasized the importance of implementing inquiry-based learning. Other speakers emphasized the importance of putting human being in technology era. As digital innovation educator and supporter, Yuni said that she would continue to look for new ways using technology to make the lecture more interesting.
“I have learned a lot from this program, this workshop is not only very educational, but also eye-opening experience to learn inventive and apply technology,” he concluded. (*)
