UNAIR NEWS – Deepening student knowledge about occupational health and safety (K3) program in mining, Public Health study programs in Banyuwangi presented HSE PT Bumi Suksesindo staff, Yan Probo Hanggono, S.KM., as guest lecture on Friday, 14 December.

Familiarly called Aan, he was one of FKM UNAIR alumni graduated in 2011. He currently served as one of HSE staff at PT Bumi Suksesindo, the largest gold mine in East Java located at Bukit Tumpang Pitu, Banyuwangi Regency.

Previously, Aan had career on Construction Company, Wijaya Karya (WIKA) and Petrosea. He also explained that currently the opportunity of K3 career is quite large. Both of government and company itself are working to develop K3 program for each production process.

“This was done in order to obtain maximum work productivity output,” Aan said.

On that occasion, Aan explained about K3 basis mining law, mining K3 general description, work process, activities that carried out by workers, as well as the efforts and implementation of K3 program. In particular, Aan explained about the opportunities for S.KM graduates in mining.

“The advantage of S.KM graduates are they can analyze the risk of disease accurately.” While D3 or D4 graduate are in charge for work safety,” said Aan.

Moreover, S.KM graduates are easier to interact and influence worker behavior because they get used to interact with community, meanwhile practitioners are often dealing with laboratory work.

According to Fairuz Faith Haritsah, some interesting questions were answered from participants, for example S.KM UNAIR itself, there were several specializations on 6th semester and should we learn anything other than only for 1 specialization?

“It is necessary, hence it can also be useful. My friend is from nutrition specialization in Occupational Safety and Health field and now he is a nutritionist for workers in K3 Oil and Gas field.” answered Aan.

“Furthermore, behavior study (Department of PKIP) is it necessary? Absolutely, it is very necessary. Thus, one of the purpose was to change workers behavior to be safe.” he continued.

It will be very useful as long we study hard, said Aan.
