Andrik Wins Best National Costumes on Putera Bahari Competition

UNAIR NEWS – “The current sea conditions in Indonesia is concerning. As we know that the use of plastic waste is still the main problem in here and it driving in-numerable sea creatures to the very edge of survival. Knowing about this issues, I decided to take part in Putera Puteri Bahari Indonesia competition. ”

That was Andrik Hermanto explaination, a graduate student from Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga who won Best National Costume award on Putera Puteri Bahari Indonesia competition 2018. The peak of this prestigious event took place on Saturday, 8 December at Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta.

Putera Puteri Bahari Indonesia competition is an event held by Ministry of Tourism Indonesia under the supervision of Dharma Ayu Bahari Jaya Foundation. The competition was focused on finding creative young people to develop and introduce the wealth of Indonesian sea potential.

“I wore a costume made by designer, Jusuf Bachtiar and The Mythical of Leak Bali was chosen as my costume theme. The color of my costume combined with red, yellow, white and black, and it has various meanings, ” said Andrik.

Andrik became the representative of Bali Province because he had a family in there. The quarantine session was carried out in Financial Training Center, Republic of Indonesia and the peak of the event was held at Sapta Pesona Building, Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta. The first stage of selection was carried out in provincial stage, in the form of interview tests and file document.

According to Andrik, this competition taught him to be an agent of change. Because it start from ourself not from others.

To become an agent of change, it takes a strong determination and courage to guide others. For instance, Andrik replaced his plastic straw with stainless steel straws or bamboo straws.

In here, Andrik also got an obstacle while participating in the competition. For instance, he should manage his time between this competition and his exam week on university. But this obstacle was overcome by the help of FKp UNAIR who fully supported Andrik to join this event.

“Our mission after this competition are introducing and developing the wealth of Indonesian sea to the world,” he added.

Andrik hoped that in the future it will be able to awaken younger generation to appreciate the environment, especially about sea. Andrik wants youth to throw their garbage in trash bin. (*)
