UNAIR Hospital Urges People to Support ODHA

UNAIR NEWS – If you heard the word of people with HIV / AIDS (ODHA), it certainly cannot be separated from the negative stigma in society. Lately, HIV / AIDS is not merely a medical problem but also a social problem. There is no support for the patients and community response tends to isolate ODHA patients.

In fact, the social pressure made a lot of patient to hide HIV / AIDS disease that has been attacking their body. Only several HIV / AIDS patients are brave to come out in public eye.

As a result of these problems, the event also held on the same day of AIDS Day, 1 December. UNAIR Hospital held a seminar “Be Healthy & Fearless to Face HIV / AIDS”. The seminar was held at  8th Floor of Dharmawangsa Hall, UNAIR Hospital on Wednesday, 12 December.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, dr., Sp. PD, K-PTI FINASIM as Director of UNAIR Hospital said that people with HIV / AIDS should not be afraid to get discriminate by public eye. Someone who might have infected with HIV / AIDS must be brave to check their self. Moreover, for HIV / AIDS patient it is recommended for them to always do their treatment.

The speech continued by Arumi Bachsin, wife of Emil Elestianto Dardak (former Regent of Trenggalek, Vice Governor of East Java elected in 2019), saying that the number of people with HIV / AIDS in Trenggalek was ranked on 3rd place in East Java. However, due to the different culture, it is hard to accept sexuality problem and people doesn’t want to check their condition to doctor.

“I’m honoured to be in HIV / AIDS seminar because it can open people’s minds about the negative perceptions of HIV / AIDS which are not all true,” she continued.

There was also signing session for UNAIR Hospital and PT. Nusantara Medika Utama collaboration. As a working partner, PT Nusantara Medika will later provide health services professionally.

The event continued with a material session delivered by dr. Daniek S., M.Kes “Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases” in Surabaya Health Office and dr. Tri Triyasmarawati, Sp. PD as a lecturer at Faculty of Medicine, UNAIR.

On that occasion, dr. Daniek delivered HIV / AIDS prevention material and to minimize the spread of HIV / AIDS, especially in productive age.

“In Surabaya,the productive age reaches 50 percent. So it needs more intense supervision and handling, “added dr. Daniek.

The material session was ended by dr. Tri Triyasmarawati, Sp. PD with “Management of Wasting Syndrome in HIV / AIDS infection”. She explained that Wasting Syndrome is closely related to mortality. Wasting syndrome is a typical condition that arises in AIDS such as: weight loss, fever, diarrhea, prolonged weakness. (*)
