UNAIR NEWS – For the first time, Airlangga Museum of History and Culture held an exhibition at Universitas Airlangga Faculty of Humanities (FIB) Hall on Thursday afternoon, November 29. The activity is a continuation of the museology course.

Edi Budi Santoso, SS, MA, as a lecturer in museology said that this activity was carried out in order to introduce Airlangga Museum of History and Culture to the general public, especially UNAIR students.

“Since its opening in 2016, many students do not know the collections that we have. So through this activity we can introduce them, “explained the advisor of History Science Department Student Association.

Furthermore, Edi emphasized that this activity was to show the existence of the museum as a place of education, entertainment and research. Therefore, this exhibition carries the concept of edutainment, which is a combination of education and entertainment.

“Indirectly, the museum has both interests, for the introduction of cultural heritage  so that people will become more aware and have a sense of responsibility to preserve the heritage of our predecessors,” he said.

As a means of introduction, students who take museology courses are also involved. Edi said, the role of students is needed to describe historical objects in the UNAIR Museum of History and Culture to visitors.

“They introduce and explain the objects in the museum, such as medical devices, weapons, paintings, manuscripts, and rocks,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Dita Reista, one of the exhibition guides, said that 75 visitors had attended the museum exhibition.

“The visitors’ enthusiasm was good. Most of them said that it is unique. There are even visitors who come from (faculty, ed) psychology and FISIP, “explained the 2017 science student.

Please note, Universitas Airlangga  Museum of History and Culture is open to the public. It has a collection of about 102 pieces of ancient objects, archives of more than 200 pieces, and several old journals and magazines that come from donations from alumni and donors. (*)
