UNAIR NEWS – Airlangga University was charged to hold a youth event called Millenials Peace Festival on Friday – Sunday, 23-25 November. The event was held in four different cities before. From Jakarta, Bandung, Palangkaraya, and Pontianak. Through UNAIR, Surabaya became the fifth city to host events targeting millennial generation.
The event was also a collaboration between UNAIR and Global Peace Conference (GPF). This time, the themed “Unity in Diversity week”. The event also open for public.
On the second day, there were Youth Assistance, Peace Circle, Peace Project, and Peace Talkshow. Furthermore, the third day includes Charity, Traditional Games, Campaign, and Flashmob.
The opening of Millenials Peace Festival was held on Friday, 23 November in Amerta Hall, 4th Floor, UNAIR Management Office. Vice Governor of East Java, Emil Dardak gave keynote speech in front of internal and external student.
Sintya Rahmi from GPF said that millenials are the main target of terrorism based on research. As we know that it is easier for terorist in recruiting and influencing millenial. Regarding on certain belief and views.
“And mostly millenials are still in school (high school, ed) and university,” she said.
Therefore, Sintya said that it is important to bring respect on different values. One of the example was through Millenials Peace Festival. In this event, the program was divided into few indoor activities. There was also houses of worship of several religions visit activity.
“We are fellow humans,” she said.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector I UNAIR Prof. Djoko Santoso, Dr., Sp. PD-KGH., Ph.D., FINASIM, in his remarks emphasized in student’s duties and obligations as future leaders. All educational processes while being a student must be directed as efforts to support community welfare. Prof. Djoko said that student must be agent of change.
As a future leader candidate, Prof. Djoko also mention that 1945 Constitution, Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) as their guide.
“As student, you have to give impact to the community,” he said. (*)
