UNAIR NEWS – Celebrating 64th Anniversary of Universitas Airlangga, students from Information and Library Sciences (IIP) once again held Airlangga Book Sale (ABS). The biggest book bazaar in UNAIR will be held on November 13-18.

Being held at Airlangga Convention Center, ABS not only offered a collection of books with discounts started from 60-80%, but also office stationery, children’s toys, culinary stands, and entertainment stage.

ABS was opened on Tuesday, 13 November by Diah Arini Arimbi as Head of UNAIR Anniversary and representatives of IIP lecturers. Not only that, the opening ceremony was also enlivened by angklung performance from Blind Child Education Foundation (YPAB) Surabaya, contemporary dance, and poetry musicalization by representatives of IIP students.

Alvin Ilham, as Head of ABS said this year ABS raised the theme of Heroes: Historical Literacy in Surabaya. This can be seen from ABS series events that were related with heroism, like decoration theme for children coloring competitions. According to him, this was also a momentum for UNAIR Anniversary celebration, which coincided with Heroes’ Day.

Slightly different from last year’s ABS, Alvin said there were several new innovations in ABS packaging this year.

“Such as library corner, we hold road shows in schools, other universities, there were coloring competitions, and the peak of celebration nights.” That distinguishes ABS this year from last year,” he said.

ABS also collaborates with the bookworm community in Surabaya to take part in this event such as Prasojo mobile library started by Head of BEM, Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Yunaz Karaman, and the Sarasvati Community owned by IIP students.

“Formerly ABS was established in 2016 because there was an opportunity to train IIP children’s soft skills. Then it came the idea of making a cheap book bazaar by IIP friends, ” explained Alvin.

Furthermore, Alvin explained, this kind of activity is for students to learn more about campus world, organization skill, and also for work preparation in the future. He also hoped ABS can be carried out again next year.

“Hopefully in the future it can be better and more special and work with more publishers, and it can introduce ABS to the entire Surabaya community,”

ABS will be closed with a music concert as the peak night on Sunday, 18 November which will be enlivened by indie bands, such as, Lintenna, Wake Up Iris, Kiara Kelana, and IIP student Art performances.
