UNAIR NEWS – In order to improve publication and competence, Universitas Airlangga held an adjunct professor program. This year, Postgraduate School UNAIR invites Dr. Sascha Hardt, LL.M from Maastricht University, The Netherlands.
Prof. Dr. Anwar Ma’ruf, drh., M.Kes,, Vice Director I of Postgraduate School explained that adjunct professor is one of UNAIR program to improve student’s publication and competence. Postgraduate School UNAIR presented a foreign lecturer to teach in UNAIR for one year. For a year, Dr. Sascha will provide material related to methodology and law research to students.
“As long as he’s here, Dr. Sascha at least taught three credits and write publications indexed on Scopus for UNAIR,” he said.
Prof. Anwar hoped that UNAIR students, especially postgraduate students, can take full advantage of adjunct professor’s skill, from giving guidance on how to write, submit, until it can be published at international journals indexed by Scopus.
On Tuesday, 6 November, a public lecture with Dr. Sascha was held in Room 105, UNAIR Postgraduate School Building. The lecture was attended by Postgraduate students in forensic science programs. The topics discussed are related to research methodology, Research Methods: Setting up a Feasible Research Project.
Dr. Sascha explained that in making a good research, one of the things to consider is a problem statement. According to him, a good problem statement clarifies things that are to be achieved in the study. Thus, problem analysis must be brief, solid, but clear.
“Think that problem statement must be answered in space and time that you have previously provided,” he said.
Moreover, according to Dr. Sascha, a good research methodology depends on the type of problem statement used in it. At least, there are three types of problem statement, descriptive, explanatory, and evaluative or normative. In addition, students must pay attention to references and grammar. (*)
