UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga students in Student Activity Unit (UKM) Ju-Jitsu continue to make the campus proud with various achievements. They have won various regional and national level competitions. This time, this achievement was achieved in the UNESA Open XII event held on 7-9 September 2018, at BG Junction Mall, Surabaya.

This competition is a national level event with participants of various ages, ranging from junior to senior. The delegation from UNAIR consisted of 5 students, 1 alumni, and 4 from other institutions. UNAIR Delegation includes Zahir (History, 2015), Nofianto Rachmad H. (Tourism, 2017), Nathanael Grady (Law, 2015), Martika Aprilia Rahayu (Sociology, 2017), and Firrizqi Krisdila Fauzi (Public Health, 2014), Arindo Ahmad Hidayatullah (Law, 2015) and Ramadian Alfian (Taxation, 2016).

In this competition, there were three medals won in men’s category. Men’s Newaza 60-70 kg 1st Place won by M. Faqihufiddin, Men’s Newaza 50-60 kg 3rd Place won by Zahir, Men’s Newaza’s > 70kg 3rd Place won by Nathanael Grady, and Special Fight Absolute Division’s 2nd Place Men’s Team by Nofianto RH, M. Faqihufiddin, Nathanael Grady.

As for the women’s category, the 1st Place medal was won from Women’s Newaza 55-65kg won by Dinda Maharani F, 3rd Place Women’s Newaza 55-65kg won by Firrizqi K. F, and 3rd Place Women’s Special Fight 5-55kg won by Rohmawati.

“To participate in this competition, Airlangga Ju-Jitsu athletes train more intensively than usual, with a training center to prepare for the championship in 1 month. While the overweight should be on a diet in advance to qualify in the competition to join, “said Mayang, one of the members of Ju-Jitsu club.

Previously, there were already some achievements made by UKM Ju-Jitsu in various competitions such as the Champion of HAN Championship in Solo, the Ju-Jitsu Championship at the University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo, HAN Olympic, and many other championships.

“I hope Universitas Airlangga Ju-Jitsu continues to excel and able to gain good reputation for alma mater, of course the members will be more solid, tough and resilient,” said Mayang. (*)
