UNAIR NEWS – Ary Kusmita, student of PSDKU UNAIR Public Health Program in Banyuwangi, managed to pass the selection of community service activities “Ekspedisi Berbakti 1” by INAVIS (Indonesia Aspiring Volunteering Society), Wednesday, August 22. The service will be held in one of the sub-districts bordering Indonesia and Malaysia.
INAVIS is an aspiring volunteer-based organization committed to achieve development of social welfare in Indonesia, Asia and the world. Its mission is to connect and optimize the potential of youth to move be ‘lanterns’ for the surrounding community. Both in the field of disaster mitigation and life and social welfare development.
“The aim of this program is to develop knowledge, skills, and understanding that the youth need to be effective leaders in culturally diverse communities,” said the student born in Tuban.
In 2018, INAVIS selected two locations for the community service programs, Raja Ampat and Entikong. Entikong Subdistrict, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan, is one of the border sub-districts of Indonesia. Entikong is one of 15 sub-districts in Sanggau District. It borders Indonesia to Serawak State, East Malaysia.
As the outermost area in the nation, more attention is needed to improve the well-being and living standards of Entikong people, especially to maintain the social and geopolitical sovereignty of the nation.
Problems that often occur at the borders include regional isolation, poor economic and human resources condition, limited access to facilities and infrastructure, and illegal workers including the practices of human trafficking.
In this service, all volunteers will be divided into four divisions, environment, education, economics and health division. The student who are now in the seventh semester was selected as coordinator of health division in the program.
“Indeed, in terms of work programs, it is more directed to preventive efforts. So, I think that my position as a public health student should be able to play more roles. Therefore, I ventured to run for health division coordinator, ” she said.
“Thank God, I could be chosen. I was already glad for qualifying,” said Ary. The community service activities will be held from Monday, September 24 to Saturday September. (*)
