UNAIR NEWS – Crimes to children is still an important issue from child enthusiasts around the world. A global level organization,  Kindermissionwerk Die Sternsinger Team collaborates with Universitas Airlangga to take parts in giving protection to children from being victims in various cases of crimes.

The seminar on “The Role of Universities on Child Protection Policy (CPP) Development to Enhance Peace Building” was held on the fourth floor hall of Management Office Building UNAIR Campus C on July 27. Yuliati Umrah S.IP., as the  Director of ALIT Foundation and Head of Partnerships Division, Faculty of Social and Political Science Alumni Association (IKA UNAIR) explained that child protection issue is always discussed by various communities in the world.

“Therefore, Kindermissionwerk Die Sternsinger Team is inviting universities around the world for  cooperations. In Indonesia, UNAIR is one of the big universities we chose to support our cause,” she said.

The alumna of Political Science UNAIR also said that in the future, the support can be given in the form of study center or curriculum of learning. However, it will be discussed further to achieve agreements.

“The main objective of this is to make efforts to protect children from various kind of conflicts,” she stated.

There have been 15 millions of children involved in various conflicts. Yuli gave an example on the bomb attack happened in Surabaya  a few months ago which involved children.

“In the incident, the children acted as the perpetrators, and we also view them as victims,” she said. “Therefore, efforts from higher education institutions like UNAIR are expected, especially through its scholars who are able to control the situation,” she explained.

There are no serious obstacles in conducting their activities.

“We believe that it is a mutual mission for a good cause,” she said.
