UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Airlangga Surabaya in collaboration with UNAIR Tropical Diseases Institute (ITD), Association of Natural Materials Researchers (PERHIPBA), and Phytochemical Society of Asia (PSA) held an international seminar on natural products and biodiversity (Bromo Conference, Symposium on Natural Products & Biodiversity).
Seminar which was opened by Minister of Research and Technology Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Ak. will be held for 2 days (11-12 July 2018) in Management Office Building Campus C, Universitas Airlangga, Mulyorejo Surabaya. There are speakers from 12 countries. They are experts in pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, biotechnology industry, and government policy on traditional medicine.
In this seminar, there are discussion on the development trend of natural product research, implementation of Nagoya protocol (to ensure the sovereignty of the State, regulate the conservation of sustainable use, and fair and balanced profit sharing), continuous validation in biodiversity, research in clinical trials, metabolomics, phytopharmacy technology, ethnomedicine, bioactivity of natural products with expertise in their fields.
The international level seminar is designed to enable scientists and professionals, as well as students to share research experiences and discuss their research in an international setting through oral presentations or posters.
“We must develop a continuous research of natural products and biodiversity so that it will not just stop being a research in the library. I hope this seminar can generate new innovations or new products that can handle some problems in pharmacy. I want Unair to also play an important role to innovate in that field, “said Nasir.
Meanwhile, UNAIR Rector Prof., Dr., Moh. Nasih, SE., MT., CMA., Ak. welcomed all conference participants. He hoped, this event in UNAIR can be a medium of exchange of information, ideas, and science to be utilized by humanity.
“Research must be improved and have a better impact on society. This conference is to strengthen natural products and deepen biodiversity research in Indonesia by inviting international researchers in the field, “explained Nasih.
On the same occasion, UNAIR conducted an MoU with PT Konimex in field of research and education. The signing of the cooperation was witnessed by Minister of Research and Technology Mohamad Nasir.
In addition, the speakers and participants who are interested can follow the tour to Mount Bromo which will be held on July 13, 2018. (*)
