UNAIR NEWS – The Aquatic Student Activity Unit (UKM), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) won at an swimming event called ‘Machung Olympiad’ in mid-May, in Malang City. The Olympiad was chosen by UNAIR Aquatic Club to show their ability after 2 years of establishment.

Gesa Cantya Primatara, representative of Aquatic Club and Head of Aquatic Club UNAIR explained the reason for choosing the Olympiad. He said that the Olympiad was appropriate for them to train members of Aquatic Club to become the next athletes who can follow the provincial regional competition.

Determination has been shown, Aquatic Club sent 15 people consisting of 13 participants, 1 official, and 1 manager. From 13 representatives, 4 of them were athletes and 9 people were still in practice stage.

They won in 17 places in the olympiad conducted by Machung University. 6 places as the 1st winner, 5 places as 2nd winner, and 6 places as third winner. It cannot be achieved without hard training. The training had been done to be champions.

“We made a preparation for 2 weeks with a lot of practices, 3 times a week. We practice with the coaches we have chosen to help us to develop our interest in UKM, ” said Gesa.

There was not only good news they had, before leaving Gesa explained there were some obstacles. From the lack of facilities for intensive training at the university until about the professionalism of the committee.

“There were some obstacles, we feel that the committee is not professional enough and facilities was not adequate as there was no place to warm up before the game,” said Gesa.

Gesa hoped the victory can boost for cohesiveness and spirits to achieve more achievements as possible in both competition and the character as an athlete. Furthermore, when they were asked for future plans with Kustiawan Tri Pursetyo, S.pi., M, Vet, Gesa explained will widen the scope of the competition followed.

“We are going forward to win the national-level contest and to develop existing human resources in order to make Aquatic UKM and Universitas Airlangga proud,” he concluded.
