UNAIR NEWS – 4 students of Universitas Airlangga Faculty of Nursing (FKp) won a special award and a silver medal in the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE) Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 9-12 May. They won for innovation they made, the beauty spray from pumpkin seed extract for anti aging.
The students were Rahmatul Habibah, Agustina Lia Fitriani, Asih arama Anindhia, and Rizki Jian Utami.
“We presented ‘Beauty spray of cucurbita moschata for anti aging’. We presented our work orally in front of two judges from other countries. How we made it, its advantages, how its SWOT analysis, how its future research prospects, and others, ” said Lia, one of the team members.
For their presentation, they received a special award from Taiwan Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) Taiwan, the international non-profit social organization in the field of discovery, including getting silver medal from WYIE event.
Lia said that the idea came up from great number of people in the current era, especially women, who are busy with their work. They do not have time to do facial treatment.
“We innovate to create a practical skin care. It can be taken anywhere. And, of course it is cheap and the material is easy to get. Finally we thought of making it from the seeds of pumpkin. Its content is equivalent to sunflower seeds, rich in vitamin E, karatenoid, antioferol antioxidants, and anti aging essence, ” she explained.
The materials, Ika continued, can regenerate dead skin so it is good for anti aging.
The participants were from various countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Malaysia, Macau, and Indonesia. They are students of high schools, universities, lecturers, and researchers. Meanwhile, from Indonesia, there are 70 teams participating. One of them came was FKp UNAIR.
Before leaving for the competition in Kuala Lumpur, each participant must go through the selection stage. The abstract selection is the earliest. “Our team is making an innovation of beauty spray from pumpkin seeds for anti aging,” she added.
From the competition, Lia claimed to get good experience. First, she gained reputation UNAIR, especially FKp in the international arena through a research innovation. Second, she could practice her English.
“In addition, we can get to know a lot of people. Especially investors from various countries. We also have the opportunity to see the culture of other countries, “said Lia. (*)
