UNAIR NEWS – May 12th is celebrated as International Nurse Day. In this regard, the members of GENCorps, one of the Semi Autonomous Bodies (BSO) at Faculty of Nursing (FKp) Universitas Airlangga, organized a community service. The activity was held as an effort of participation of nursing students, especially FKp UNAIR in commemorating International Nurses Day.
The service was given in the form of counseling on hypertension disease; blood pressure, blood sugar exam, and uric acid for the elderly; as well as a fun walk event. The event was titled GBGC (Getar Bakti GENCorps).
In his speech, Head of GENCorps Ferly Anas stated that GBGC is one of the community services conducted by students, especially nursing students to the community. It provides education, knowledge, and awareness related to healthy living.
“Head of BEM FKp UNAIR was also represented by Gifri Haritsa. There was also Head of RW IV Ploso, Mr. Sudarto and Member of Elderly Integrated Care Center, “he said.
The event was held on Saturday-Sunday, May 12-13 at RW IV Hall, Bogen Street 2, RW 4 Ploso, Tambaksari Sub-district, Surabaya. On the first day, there was a counseling on hypertension presented by Asri Mas’ulah, S. Kep., Ns and blood pressure, blood sugar, and uric acid exams for free.
On the second day, there was a fun walk that was attended by the elderly and some residents of RW IV. The coupon was previously distributed by the committee.
“At the end of the activity, the doorprizes were drawn ,” he said. “The response from the residents was very good,” he added.
The event is expected to give positive impacts for the people and to strengthen ties among residents and the elderly who are busy everyday with their respective activities. They were made aware on the importance of exercise and personal health. (*)
