UNAIR NEWS – The Industrial Revolution 4.0 is a challenge for today’s society, especially nowadays students or millennial generation. The infinity of technological advances raises new problems.
Responding to the challenges, D3 Information System (SI) Universitas Airlangga held a guest lecture on Tuesday, May 8 by inviting a programmer Sani Iman Pribadi at the Information System Directorate Room, 2nd Floor, UNAIR Rectorate Building, themed “Graduate of Information System Nowadays”.
Coordinator of Study Program (KPS) D3 SI UNAIR Endah Purwanti, S.Si., M.Kom., said that the activity is a routine activity of D3 SI UNAIR. The focus of the discussion is on how the graduate should facing the current challenges.
Endah added that the flow of globalization into Indonesia and the development of the industrial world known as industrial revolution 4.0 is here. The era, she added, emphasizes the digital economy, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and big data.
“Therefore, the D3 SI is obliged to present it (the pattern of industrial revolution 4.0, ed) to the students as potential practitioners of the era,” she told UNAIR NEWS.
“Do not let the students ignore this fact. And, this is necessary as a medium to prepare candidates for SI graduates in this era, ” she added.
According to Endah, knowledge on data exchange is very important today. It becomes a necessity, especially the development of an industrial era that prioritizes physical cyber-based data, cloud computing, and big data.
“Including the needs of programmers in Indonesia today,” she said.
In addition, the activity was aimed to give students an idea of the challenges, especially graduates of SI study program which is are related to the industrial revolution 4.0.
“This is a necessary insight to enter the world of work. Including motivation to prospective SI graduates to prepare to face the era of industrial revolution, “she said.
Meanwhile, Sani said that the challenges of each batch of graduates are very different. The most striking for now is the easiness of internet access.
“Compared to my time, it’s obviously very different,” he said.
It is also a new challenge as well. Therefore, they must prepare themselves with Internet-oriented skills, especially in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. As much as possible, graduates prepare to occupy positions with important role in the industrial era.
Student activeness is also needed today. In addition to educational activities on campus, they must practically participate in related activities SI although the scope is still small. One of them is active in the community.
“If we observe, two years experience is required in open recruitment. Being active in the community or involved in a senior or lecturer project can be an option, ” he said.
According to Sani, the readiness of programmer and field personnel must be supported by many parties. One of them is academicians. Student involvement in solving problems related to the field should be improved.
“Including the preparation of curricula or competencies tailored to the needs of the era and existing industries,” he said. (*)
