UNAIR NEWS – Various steps and efforts of acceleration to become one of Top 500 world-class universities have been conducted by Universitas Airlangga. One of the important key points that are now being encouraged is research and publications into international journals, especially international journals indexed by Scopus.

Therefore, when giving a speech in front of new students of doctoral, master’s, specialist, and professional programs, Head of Research and Innovation Institute (LPI) UNAIR Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, M.Si., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of research contributions and publications to achieve the goal to be a world class university.

“One of the contributions to be a world-class university is research and publication. And, this is the target from the ministry for us to be the top 500 world universities, “said Prof. Hery.

In the oration delivered at the Garuda Mukti Hall, February 1, Prof. Hery also emphasized the role of new students to participate in achieving UNAIR targets. Regarding research and publications, students and lecturers should continue to collaborate well. If it can be done, he added, the target of being Top 500 world universities can be realized.

“The newly inaugurated students here, there are 700 more. If within two to four years into the future all active in research and publication, there will be a lot of outcomes generated, “he explained.

Furthermore, the professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UNAIR emphasized the existence of a vibrant academic climate as it will support the success of research programs and publications.

“The university is seen from academic quality and scientific communication. Abroad, the academic life was really felt. Meanwhile, our country is still preoccupied with activities in social media, “he said.

Regarding the target, Prof. Hery insisted that it must be pursued. For him, it is not just to pursue prestige. Furthermore, the process of improving quality together is the ultimate goal.

“Being a world class university is not a matter of prestige. This is a process for improving quality. Therefore, all of you will be educated and developed into qualified students, “he explained.

At the end, Prof. Hery reiterated becoming a world-class university can affect several aspects, such as competition among universities in improving quality, performance and institutional governance, also improving internal and external welfare.

“And, of all that, there will be also a good reputation in the public,” he concluded.
