UNAIR NEWS – Historic hall of Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga again be a silent witness to oath sworn by the new doctors FK UNAIR. There were 14 new doctors for first period of 2018 inaugurated directly by Dean FK UNAIR Prof. Dr. Soetojo., dr., Sp.U (K), Thursday, January 31. As the second oldest medical education institution in Indonesia, FK UNAIR has inaugurated 10,049 doctors since 1954.

The uneven distribution of doctors in Indonesia is still an unresolved problem. Therefore, the Dean of FK Unair Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U (K) appealed to new doctors so they are willing to serve wholeheartedly.

“People are waiting for your contribution. We hope this new doctor will not picky for the practice site. Because, the majority of doctors are still scattered only in big cities. We need to concern more to the health of the people living in the peripheral region, “he said.

According to him, the independence of doctors will be honed more if they ventured to serve in remote areas. “If only practice around Surabaya, you become less independent. If you want to be independent and gain a lot of experience, go to remote areas like Papua and NTT, “he added.

In the same occasion, the Deputy Director of Education and Research of Dr. Soetomo Hospital Anang Endaryanto, dr., Sp.A (K) conveyed the challenges of doctors’ professionalism in the future, such as the quality of communication with patients. This applies to all doctors in puskesmas or hospital types A, B, and C.

“As much as any competence and level of education, if doctors are not able to communicate well, it is feared the effectiveness of treatment will not be achieved,” he said.

According to him, the effectiveness of treatment depends on the quality of service and communication. Both the patient and the patient’s family are entitled to get the clearest information about the treatment.

“It is important for physicians to understand how to educate patients and their families so that the effectiveness of treatment therapies can be achieved. That way, the patient will believe, then commit and ultimately responsible for the achievement of the medical instructions, “he said.

Prior to the inauguration ceremony, a new doctor’s debriefing was held. Each prospective physician received information about the specialist admission system, medical practice law, government policy related to internship program, entrepreneurship, and emergency.
