“Pelangi V” from UNAIR for Indonesia

UNAIR NEWS – School of Airlangga In Harmony – SCHOLAH UNAIR Mengajar has held Pelangi V at SDN IV Ngrejo, Wonokoyo, Ngrejo Village, Tanggung Gunung Subdistrict, Tulungagung Regency. This program is a miniature form of Indonesia Mengajar. The goal is to help improve the quality of education in the countryside, by plunging directly into the 3 T (Outermost, Frontier, and Disadvanted).

The Pelangi V team was there site from Sunday, January 7 to Saturday, January 27. During the service period, good and bad times experienced by the team consisting of Cindi Claudia Sagita Putri (FISIP), Adi Bintang Pradana (FEB), Fahmi Royani (FST), Dita Hartiningsih (Vokasi), Roidah (FH), and Arham Azhari ( FEB). The beauty of nature and life in coastal communities brought happiness for them, especially when you see the smiles of innocent and naive children.

“In addition, we also learn to be a whole new person who minimizes the use of gadgets,” said Arham M. Azhari to UNAIR NEWS .

Besides, Azhari explained that the challenge of the activity was from the children, phone signal, and various educational problems, as there are still many teachers who arrive late because the distance of their house is quite far away.

Wonokoyo hamlet itself is located far from the urban life bustle, the population were traditional fishermen and corn and banana farmers. The presence of Pelangi V Team brought its own enthusiasm as the team also visited the residents’ houses to explain the program that will run for three weeks.

Regarding the work programs, they taught from 7 am to 8 am while waiting for teachers to arrive. After that, the team taught in other classes where the teacher could not attend. Then they stayed for the tutoring and library activity  afterschool in the afternoon.

“In the evening we taught them to read Arabic,” he said.

Arham also explained that in short term, the activity still can not be felt and the progress is not clear. But in the long run it the activities can bring change.

“Hopefully this program becomes one of the significant program in UNAIR. Because this activity showed the real meaning of devotion. Although still within the scope of East Java, in the future it may extend to the scope of Indonesia, “hoped Arham who is also a team member of SCOLAH UNAIR MENGAJAR.
