UNAIR NEWS – One of the biggest activities of Faculty of Dental Medicine Student Executive Board Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is DENTINE 2018 (Dentistry Intellectual Challenge). The annual competition was opened on Sunday, January 21 by the Dean of Faculty of Dental Medicine Dr. R Darmawan Setjianto, drg., M.Kes. The opening of the competition was supported by a team of Paskibraka SMAN 5 Kota Surabaya and enthusiastic participants of DENTINE.
DENTINE is an annual event of Mathematics and Natural Science Olympiad and basic dentistry for senior high school students across Indonesia. In its 10th year, DENTINE 2018 had been participated by 3448 teams or more than 10,000 students from 22 regions across Indonesia, including from Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Denpasar, to Balikpapan. Increasing number of Dentine participants each year is one proof that FKG UNAIR is well known by senior high school students in Indonesia.
Coordinator of Student Affairs and Scholarship, Dr. Anis Irmawati, drg., M.Kes gave positive responses related to FKG student achievement that is capable of organizing a national event involving students, lecturers, to high school students in Indonesia.
“This activity is to accommodate the ability of senior high school students in Indonesia in the academic field, especially MIPA and basic dentistry,” said I Nyoman, Head executive of DENTINE 2018.
Not only academic field, participants can also compete on their ability in writing essays such as DESCOM, or non-academic in DSTART.
“Hopefully, this activity can open the students’ mind to make achievement and compete to become a better person,” added Nyoman.
Wanda Riskyna, one of Balikpapan champion expressed her happiness after winning. She did not expect to qualify for the semi-finals with 53 other teams from 22 cities in Indonesia.
The MIPA Olympiad and Dentine 2018 is one of a series of activities from three major activities, D’START (competition in sports), DESCOM (scientific essay writing competition), and DENTINE.
In the preliminary rounds, each team will work on basic math, physics, biology, chemistry, and dentistry issues. The two teams with the highest scores in each city and the top ten national rankings will be invited to Surabaya to compete in the DENTINE final on Sunday, January 28. (*)
