UNAIR NEWS – Dinda Maulidya Putri Maharani, a student of Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNAIR has won a silver medal in the 2018 South East Asia Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Championship. It took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday, January 21.
In the championship, Dinda was in the junior category for 19-25 year old participants. She and her team from East Kalimantan and East Java managed to win from participants from other countries in Southeast Asia.
She was happy when contacted UNAIR NEWS on Monday, January 22 morning. Despite having some obstacles such as a broken weapon during the game, Dinda was grateful to finally be able to win a medal for Indonesia.
“Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful. I feel proud I could bring Indonesia’s name well in someone else’s country, “said Dinda.
In the championship, in the semifinals, Dinda and the team won 45-17 against Malaysia. Meanwhile, in the final round, she had to be defeated by Singaporean team 45-33.
She did not make much preparation as she only had ten days for it. Before the event, she had to follow KKN program located in Bojonegoro. “While KKN, I went jogging to maintain the condition,” said Dinda who also followed Badminton club.
In the championship, Dinda was supported by many parties. In addition to parents, the dean of FKM UNAIR through the vice dean I also supported her.
“My mom and dad always give me support and remind me ‘do not forget to pray before the match, keep calm, do not be emotional, focus’. They do it via video call or phone. So, before leaving for the hall , I call them first and ask for blessing, ” she explained.
“Vice Dean I FKM Ibu Santi also affects the success of Dinda. She had helped me to get permission in KKN. Alhamdulillah, the university also supports me. My friends as well. Sometimes they make video call, ” she added.
Earlier, on December 1, 2017, Dinda managed to win medals from the 2017 Fencing National Championship and Test Event Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta. She won a silver medal in Women individual junior Saber National Championship Fencing Indonesia 2017 and silver medal team in Test Event Asian Games 2018. (*)
