UNAIR NEWS – Prof. Dr. M. Hatta Ali, SH, MH, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Courts (MA) RI, was elected by acclamation Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) Universitas Airlangga period 2017-2022. Eighteen people attending from a total of 21 members of MWA UNAIR unanimously chose Hatta Ali among three candidates. The other candidates were Minister of Research and Technology Moch. Nasir and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignatius Jonan.

In the MWA assembly led by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Moh Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA, in the Office of the Supreme Courts in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 10, yesterday, the Minister of Research and Technology did not attend, so it can not be nominated. While Ignatius Jonan presented his aspirations to Hatta Ali. Thus Hatta Ali replaced the previous chairman of the MWA, Sudi Silalahi, who has served two periods so that the statute cannot be selected anymore.

Interestingly, from 21 new members of MWA UNAIR for the 2017-2022 period there are four ministerial level officials. In addition to the Chairman of MA Hatta Ali there are also Mendikbud Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Research and Technology Moch Nasir, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignatius Jonan. Then there was also Chairman of Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) Center KH Ma’ruf Amin, and Dwi Soetjipto former Pertamina Director, cultural observer Dr. Sri S. Sutardjo, SH., M.Hum.

“In addition to the Minister of Research and Technology representing the ministry element (Kemenristekdikti), the others represent the elements of society,” said Rector UNAIR Prof. Moh Nasih, while chairing the meeting.

As the head of the university, he hoped that the members and stewards of MWA UNAIR for the next period can work together, to support the progress of Universitas Airlangga to meet the future targets, including the task from the government to be in the rank of Top 500 universities of the world (WCU – world class university ).

While the new Chairman of the MWA, Prof. Hatta Ali, who is also an alumnus of FH UNAIR, expressed his gratitude for the trust entrusted to him. For the future challenges, Hatta Ali expected cooperation and synergy to realize all expectations.

“Beyond that, we should be grateful that this UNAIR MWA is two terms already with great results, which has laid the groundwork for the advancement of UNAIR. In the future we will improve the rules in the MWA towards the more advanced for the university, “said Prof. Hatta Ali.

While the Chairman of the MWA period 2006-2016, Sudi Silalahi in the report, was grateful that the challenges in the first period of MWA UNAIR it can be passed well. The challenges were not only from the outside, but also from within the legal sphere.

“It was a difficult period, until the issuance of Government Regulation No. 30 of 2006 on Universitas Airlangga State Owned Legal Entity (BHMN),” said Sudi Silalahi, former Indonesian Secretary of State.

In the next period, the PP the next development to encourage the realization of PP. 30 years 2014 about the statutes of Universitas Airlangga as PTN Legal Entity (PTN-BH). It was not easy, a dynamic change of UNAIR’s statute.
