UNAIR NEWS – Chosen Srikandi Airlangga (women activists) are selected to help and support the refugees from the conflict of Sampang, Madura. It was stated by Head of Women Empowerment Division Student Executive Board Student Family Universitas Airlangga, Mella Fitriyatul Hilmi.
The community service program of Sampang conflict refugees is a part of the Women’s Activist School (SAP) of Airlangga activities.
“Those who have been chosen will have their thoughts, abilities, and personalities improved in order to become an intelligent, progressive, tough, and graceful women. Before going to serve, they are trained first with various materials about women empowerment, “said Mella.
A total of 30 were selected students from various faculties in UNAIR. They passed the SAP selection by following open recruitment, bringing curriculum vitae, writing an essay, and interview.
In 2017, BEM UNAIR raised picked a topic “Woman of Peacemaker”. Mella said the topic selection was based on anxiety seeing vulnerable women and children in refugee camps.
According to Mella, SAP program is also in line with the annual work program of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, women as peace activists.
Selected participants received material on gender, women’s movement, leadership, and social analysis. In order to become more solid into the field, they also had evening activities to strengthen ties.
“In each material there is a discussion group hosted by a speaker and Srikandi Airlangga 2016. Discussion activities have been conducted from 8 to 10 September yesterday,” added the student of the Faculty of Law.
Srikandi Airlangga 2017 will be sent to empower victims of conflict in Sampang at Puspa Agro flats in Jemundo, Sidoarjo. They are scheduled to serve from October to December 2017.
Over time, according to Mella, the activity programs will be discussed further by the participants and BEM UNAIR. (*)
