UNAIR NEWS – The lecturers of Faculty of Dental Medicine Universitas Airlangga has pioneered telemedicine useful for the dentists in East Lombok’s public health centers (Puskesmas). The initiator, Aqsa Sjuhada Oki, drg., M.Kes., said that telemedicine can be used to share knowledge.
Telemedicine was conducted during annual community service by FKG UNAIR. According to Aqsa, the internet connection in East Lombok was adequate for national health insurance. However, the bandwidth was not enough for telemedicine.
Looking at the problem, Aqsa as the Head of Information System Unit FKG UNAIR dealt with the technical problem. For two days, with his team, he visited 12 puskesmas in East Lombok to train 12 dentists for telemedicine program.
“They have internet connection for Health BPJS but the bandwidth was low. Therefore, we initiated Airlangga Dental Telemedicine Center. We started now,” said Aqsa.
The first telemedicine seminar, the dentists in East Lombok with a staff from Health Agency followed presentation by periodontics expert, Dr. Ernie Maduratna, drg., M.Kes., Sp.Perio (K). She gave a presentation on her product, Dentolaser. The participants seemed enthusiastic with the presentation.
“Can we get the Dentolaser product in East Lombok? We are interested to buy,” asked a participant.
“The product will be available and distributed in the future,” said Dr. Ernie.
Aqsa explained, telemedicine will be held regularly once in every three month. The material will be adjusted with the need of the users.
The lecturer of Oral Biology Department FKG UNAIR hoped that telemedicine facilities will simplify users and experts to share the knowledge.
“They got insight directly from UNAIR experts. They do not have to attend costly seminars far from their place. With telemedicine, everything is practical,” stated Aqsa.
