UNAIR NEWS – Bank Mayapada is providing scholarships to ten journalists to study at Universitas Airlangga master programs. This scholarship program is a collaboration of the bank and Indonesian Journalist Association (PWI) East Java.

The programs offered are Media and Communications, Politics, Human Resources Development, and Management Master programs. They are given to journalists from various media, printed, television, or online.

The agreement on this program was witnessed by UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih, UNAIR Secretary Koko Srimulyo, and PWI officials, on Thursday, May 18, in Rector’s room.  The scholarship is given for two years, from 2017/2018 to 2018/2019 academic year.

“We create synergy in PWI to improve the academic insight. The objective is to improve the journalists’ competence. When they have a vast knowledge, their competence will also get better,” said Akhmad Munir, Head of ANTARA Bureau in PWI Jatim.

Munir added that the master scholarships are expected to give contribution to journalists their professionalism improvement.

In this occasion, Prof. Nasih also said that journalists awarded scholarships should remain to work as journalists after their graduation. So they can contribute in building quality media.

“With these scholarships, there will be more quality human resources among the journalists. If they are graduated, they should remain to be journalists. So the media is filled with capable individuals and the products are even in better quality,” said Prof. Nasih.

Koko Srimulyo added that there will be no special treatment given to the journalists. All of them will be treated the same.

“There will be no special treatments to the journalists. In their studies, they are treated the same as other students,” said Koko.
