Vocational Education Dissimilar with Polytechnic

UNAIR NEWS – Faculty of Vocational Studies Universitas Airlangga was visited by Institute of Social Science and Management STIAMI Jakarta, on Friday, May 5.  There were five delegates of STIAMI, Vocational Studies Program Director, Director of University, Diploma 3 Taxation Program Coordinator the lecturers.

The group was received by officials of Faculty of Vocational Studies Universitas Airlangga led by Vice Dean I Prof. Retna Apsari. The vice dean for academic and student affairs shared the story of developing UNAIR Vocational Studies.

“The supports from the government for vocational programs are limited and the program is often deemed to be the same with polytechnic. They are actually different,” said Retna.

The professor of Bio-optics also encouraged Vocational Studies program of STIAMI to join Indonesian Vocational Studies Higher Education Forum (FPTVI) to share the spirit on vocational education.

According to the leader of STIAMI delegation, Ardiansyah, it is the moment for vocational studies to get the deserving place among students. The less attention paid to vocational studies is the challenge ahead.

“Vocational programs is something new for the public so there are challenges to deal with to make it popular among the public,” said Ardiansyah.

The meeting was held for three hours in Faculty of Vocational Studies UNAIR. They shared spirit on vocational studies so the public in general understand its importance.
