UNAIR NEWS- Tropical Disease Diagnostic Centre (TDDC) succeeded in developing a method to determine sex of monomorphic bird. The study center which is headquartered at Institute of Tropical Disease (ITD) is able to ascertain whether it is male or female by looking at the feather.
A Cucak rowo breeder from Wisma Mukti Sukolilo Surabaya, Gunawan, has already proved that. He said that the technology development which initiated by UNAIR is shatter the myth. Previously, sex determination referred to the birds’ behavior. He said a method and technology which is initiated by UNAIR has an applicative impacts for society. Especially for Cucak Rowo Breeder. It has higher economist value since the knowledge of birds’ sex will increase the incomes.
Researcher of TDDC, Dr. Eduardus Bimo Aksono explained that it is the simple and safe method. There is neither blood sampling nor birds engineering which will be diagnosed. It only takes the feather of birds or even the falling feathers.
Currently, the developing method provides many advantages for breeder in East Java, West Java, Mid Java, Bali and the other province.
