UNAIR NEWS – Willingness and wish to be a helpful person have always been in Prof.Dr.Bambang Prajogo’s mind. When he studied in Pharmacognosy and Phytochemicals Universitas Airlangga, Prof.Dr.Bambang Prajogo E.W., M.S never thought what his profession would be. He just wanted to participate in solving the communities’ problem.

“Through that determination, my knowledge in Pharmacognosy and phytochemicals brought me to produce some herbal medicine which can be used for people, such as contraception pills for men,” he said.

During an interview with UNAIR NEWS, Prof Bambang said that he studied Pharmacognosy and Phytochemical in 1983 at Universitas Airlangga then he continued pharmacist profession studies in 1984. He completed his master degree 1984 at UGM.

“Before I took my doctorate degree, I followed the short courses Mid-Career Training of Pharmacochemistry, Gadjah Mada University-Vrije University in 1987 and Training of Good Laboratory University de Lausanne-Switzerland in1995. Seven years later, in 2002 I completed my doctoral program in Universitas Airlanga,” he continued.

Becoming an academician, he figures out the way to participate in solving communities problems which is by being consistent in doing research. Many of his researches have been acquired grants to be developed and manufactured; one of these researches is gendarusin isolate A from Justicia gendarussa Burm leaves as anti-HIV and production of Phytopharmaca Gendarusa capsule (Justicia gendarussa Burm.f) as contraception pills for men.

“I always think how to actualize our contribution into products. It takes consistency of doing research to solve problems. As my passion is in reproduction field, so I focus on herbal medicine which is able to use for reproduction, such as contraception pills for men,” he added.
