UNAIR NEWS – Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Mochammad Yuwono, MS., Apt. is a chemical pharmacist expert specialized in Pharmaceutical analysis UNAIR.  He focuses on drugs, cosmetic and food testing. Food  for human consumption has to meet some standards from any aspects, such as quality, safety, benefits, and nutritions.

For industrial use, pharmaceutical analysis is necessary, now or in the future. He also told that government will need some experts in this field. They are usually placed in National agency of drug and food control.

Therefore, the reviewer of Chiang Mai Journal of Science said that employment in pharmaceutical analysis is widely open. Pharmaceutical Analysis along with its improvement has important role to test drugs, food and cosmetics. So, the experts in that field are always needed by the manufacturers.  Some companies’ officers often contact him to get help on finding the recommended human resources. It means that Pharmacy graduates are still wanted in job market.

Yuwono has been an expert in Therapeutic Products Monitoring Directorate, Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM), PPOMN and PROM. He often speaks in seminars or trainings on drug, cosmetic and food testing in various events, including being invited by Ministry of Health as an expert source in many occasions. “In present or in the future, the role of pharmaceutical analysis is always important,” he said.

Yuwono provides guidance to final year students from bachelor, master and doctoral program. He is also active in community service. The seven awards winner from foreign institutions (two from UNESCO and five from DAAD) has published a lot of research internationally.  It is a form of application of his knowledge. Researches should be maintained and recorded through scientific publications.

In his unit, Yuwono always gives opportunity to students who want to have an internship program there so they can get practical experience before they finish their study.  The man whose research on Gas Chromatography was included in Ewing’s Analytical Instrumentation Handbook by Marcel Dekker, The USA said that there are a lot of graduates of Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) who work as professionals or continue study abroad.
