UNAIR NEWS – The doctoral thesis defense exam of Indonesian Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister (Menpan RB), Asman Abnur, has run well. Asman graduated from Islamic Economics Doctoral program of Universitas Airlangga Postgraduate School with ‘Highly Satisfactory’ result and 3.98 GPA.
The exam was held in Garuda Mukti Hall, Management Office Building, Campus C UNAIR on Monday, February 27. In his presentation, Asman presented his doctoral thesis titled Pengaruh Belanja Modal Pemerintah dan Investasi Swasta terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Daerah dan Tenaga Kerja Terserap Serta Kesejahteraan Rakyat di Kabupaten/Kota Provinsi Kepulauan Riau dalam Perspektif Islam (The Effect of State Capital Expenditure and Private Investment to Regional Economic Growth and Absorbed Labour and People’s Welfare in Regency/City of Riau Islands province in the Perspective of Islam).
Asman admitted that it was not easy to finish it as he had his routines in Jakarta and for six years he had to go Jakarta –Surabaya back and forth for his study.
Asman who was the 83rd doctor of Islamic Economics said that the prospect of Islamic Economics is exciting. It is a challenge for Indonesia as the country with the most Muslim population and the center of Islamic Economics studies is in England.
“Our next challenge is how to inspire Islamic Economics practitioners, so they can keep up with the global development. England whose most people are not muslims is the center of Islamic Economics studies. This is a great challenge for me,” said Asman.
In defending his dissertation, Asman was tested by ten examiners. The exam was led by UNAIR Rector, a professor of Accounting, Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak. Some of the examiners were Prof. Dr. Suroso Imam Zadjuli, SE as a promotor, Prof. Dr. H. Ali Mufrodi, MA as co-promotor, Prof. Dr. H. Muslich Anshori, S.E., M.Sc., Ak., and Prof. Dr. Djoko Mursinto, Drs.Ec., M.Ec. There were also, Indonesia Police Chief Drs. H.M. Tito Karnavian, M.A., Ph.D,who was also attending to assess dissertation of Asman.
Asman hoped that Islamic Economics development should be maintained as Indonesia is a country which has an opportunity to realize Islamic Economics concepts.
“The next development which can’t be stopped is this study to be used as a reference in Islamic Economics development so it can be actualized in Indonesia,” said Asman.
Beside the examiners and family, his exam was also attended by speaker of Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR), Miniter of State Owned Enterprises, Minister of Law and Human Rights. There were also Rectors of Andalas University, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Administrative Law Professor Prof. Dr. Mahfud MD, East Java Police Chief and the Mayor of Surabaya in the defense exam. (*)
