UNAIR NEWS – An expert of formulation innovation and herbs analysis, Dr. Idha Kusumawati, S.Si., Apt., M.Si from Faculty of Pharmacy Universitas Airlangga has been focusing on herbal medicine analysis.   Indonesia is undeniably wealthy of natural resources. In fact, there are a lot of foreign scholars visit Indonesia to know more about herbal medicine from the experts.

The herbal medicine needs the right formulation and analysis to keep its quality and beneficial. So, the medical herbalist has the important role in development of local wisdom herbs because they are  great potentials of Indonesia.

“Formulation acceleration and analytical development is really needed. So, improvement of herbal medicine can be optimal and go well,” she said .

She has been actively conducting research. There are many of her journal been published both at international or national level. She made some achievements from her works in UNAIR as High Achievement Lecturer (1st rank) Faculty of Pharmacy and High Achievement Lecturer (3rd rank) UNAIR in  2011.  In 2015, she wrote an international publication entitled A New Indole Alkaloid from Voacanga Grandifolia (ChemInform) and Physical Characterization and In Vivo Study of Ovalbumin Encapsulated in Alginate Microspheres (International Journal of Drug Delivery Technology).

Last year, she presented her two researches in 2nd International Seminar on Pharmaceutical Science and Technology 2016, Antiradical Activity Of Herbal Extract By Thin-Layer Chromatography With Visualizer-Videodensitometry and Antitusive Activity Of Epms (Etil-P-Metoksi Sinamat) In Sulphur Dioxide (So2) Induced Cough Model In Mice.

Idha has patented many of her researches. In 2012, she patented two of her researches, herbal formula of Pegagan Centella asiatica (Centella asiatica (L) Urban) Single and Mixed by Rhizome Powder (Kaempferia galanga L) as Standardized Herbal Medical to accelerate tooth extraction healing and  the Formula of rhizome (Kaempferia Galanga L) as the standardized for topical analgesic herbal medicine.

Meanwhile in 2014, she also patented two researches, antibacterials from Streptomyces sp. B2 and K2 and the use as antibacterial of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and also the extract formula and Bran Oil as sunscreen.  Last year, there were four researches patented. (*)
