UNAIR NEWS – Kurnia Puspa Yuliani, a student of International Relations succeeded to be a finalist in Muslimah Award 2016 on Saturday, December 17 in Islamic center Pamekasan Madura. She was in Top 20 in the contest.
The contest was followed by at least 81 participants from around East Java. Like other beauty contest, they were selected from photos and data they sent to the committee. If they qualify, they can continue to quarantine phase. Through this phase, 20 finalist were chosen and trained for three days for Public Speaking, Islamic knowledge and they also visited some tourism spots in Madura.
“In the quarantine, we were selected from reading Quran, interview and how to do sermon. But our attitude, discipline, activeness and behavior were also assessed,” said the students active in Karawitan UKM as Sinden (a Javanese singer in traditional show).
Before the quarantine phase, Kurnia said that she was ill and she was down for the quarantine process, but because of motivation from parents, she could follow the process well.
“I remember that my parents always pray for me even though they could not see me directly. So when I started everything such as interview and grand final, I always call them,” said the Trenggalek representative.
She also had another problem beside her illness, catwalk lane was not perfect during Final, so She was a bit nervous and must be careful.
“I was a bit bothered with the lane, it did not feel right. One of my friends fell, but Alhamdulillah when I was walking, nothing happened,” she said.
Even though she could bring the trophy home, but Kurnia felt satisfied with her achievement, either religiously and from the performance. “Even though I didn’t win, I have brought UNAIR name in Top 20,” she said. (*)
