Concern with Epileptics, MM Students Hold Charity Fest

UNAIR NEWS – Management Master program never loses its touch to hold interesting and educative events. On Saturday, December 17, its students in Student Association (MM) held an Charity Fest 2016 titled Support Epilepsy Awareness: “Break the Stigma”. It was held in North Quay port, Surabaya.

There were at least 40 epileptics and their family attending. Beside getting culinary treats, they also got business training such as from Bagus the finalist of “Masterchef Indonesia” and also Laras “Lazada”. There were speakers from MM students as well such as Annisa “Jajanlondo” and Ema “Henmate” who presented her experience on online business.

Head of MM program Dr. Gancar Candra Premananto, SE., M.Si, stated that the university does not only expect its students to have business knowledge but also expect them to have great empathy and concern to others.

“Hima MM had an excellent idea. For Business Ethics and CSR class, they hold an event to share joy with the Epileptics,” he said.

In the event, there were a lot of activities, food and good competition, traditional dance, and coaching clinic on entrepreneurship. “We want to blend with the epileptics. People must eradicate the stigmas on the epileptics,” said Satria Witaradya, MM student and the head of the committee.

Dr. Dr. Kurnia as the supervisor for the epileptics said that there was an elementary school teacher who did not understand and even forbid the studentsnto buy something from the epileptics as they worried about being affected by the disease. “That people ignorance is what we are trying to deal with,” Kurnia said.
