UNAIR NEWS – As an excellent province, the regional administration of East Java has made efforts to improve prosperity of the people in many sectors. It was stated by East Java Governor Soekarwo in a national seminar “Reconstructing National Developmental Aim Towards Competitiveness in ASEAN Economic Community”. The seminar was held by the academicians of Postgraduate School Universitas Airlangga on Wednesday, December 14 in Garuda Mukti Hall Management Office Building UNAIR.
“To prevent middle income trap from happening, there are few things to improve, strengthening production basis from any sectors,” he said. Soekarwo also elaborated an effort to develop markets in East Java to increase the trade surplus. He predicted that in 2017, East Java economic growth will reach 5.8 %.
He also empowers Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) in East Java so the province can compete in ASEAN Economic Community.
Beside Soekarwo, the seminar was attended by Lamongan Regent, H. Fadeli, Gresik Regent, Dr. H Sambari Halim Radianto, Acting Governor of Gorontalo Zudan Arif Fakrullah, Director of Postgarduate School Prof. Dr. Hj. Sri Iswati, S.E., M.Si., Ak, and moderated by the academician of Faculty of Law UNAIR Suparto Wijoyo.
UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak, in his speech said that there are a lot of things to be studied and reconstructed to achieve prosperity and to be ready for MEA. “Our nation’s ideology should base and direct our national developmental process. Pancasila should be a reference for the developmental process,” said Prof. Nasih.
“I hope that through the seminar, we can contribute ideas for the country or at least for East Java and we can build the ideal concept of development together,” said UNAIR Rector.
Lamongan Regent stated that Lamongan is ready for MEA. He has developed Work Training Agency (BLK) as a strategy to improve the labours’ skills and competitiveness.
Prof. Dr Sri Iswati, on strategy to face MEA, encouraged the society to know the concept of MEA and develop ideas to make them excel in MEA.
In the seminar, there was a launching of Airlangga Development Journal first volume published by Postgraduate School UNAIR. The journal contains articles from any discipline of science.
Furthermore, there was also 600 packages of Manilkara seeds given by Perum Perhutani to the participants of the seminar. It was done to support government’s effort to make the region greener.
