UNAIR NEWS – During the main event of 39th Dies Natalis of FISIP Universitas Airlangga, there was an awarding session for Soetandyo Award and Soetandyo Scholarship. It was held in Soetandyo Hall FISIP UNAIR on Wednesday, December 7.
Soetandyo scholarships were given to 15 students from various universities in Indonesia with social, law and humanities as the field of studies. They are awarded to students who are finishing their thesis, master thesis or dissertation on pluralism, social justice, law and human rights and also democracy.
All awarded students were from bachelor, master and doctoral programs. They were from Universitas Palangkaraya, Universitas Jember, Universitas Riau, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarief Hidayatullah Jakarta, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Lampung, and Universitas Airlangga.
Head of Soetandyo Study Center Prof. Dr. Budi Prasetyo, M.Si, said that the awardees have been selected from hundreds of research proposals. Thirty proposals were selected then finally chosen 15 for the scholarship awardees.
Beside the scholarships, there was an awarding session for Soetandyo Award. This year, Soetandyo Award was given to human rights practitioner and sociologist, Imam B. Prasodjo. The 56 year-old-academician was the initiator of Gerakan Nurani Dunia.
Regarding Soetandyo Award, Prof. Budi stated that his unit has received 30 names of candidates from various institutions. After the selection, ten names were chosen until finally one name decided to receive the award, the sociologist of Universitas Indonesia.
Prof. Budi who is in the committee of Soetandyo Award said that the criteria are scientific work publications and community service. “There are a lot of excellent academicians but they don’t have concrete works in the society, especially in law and human rights. Hopefully the winner can carries on Soetandyo works,” said Prof. Budi. “We are looking for a similar individual with Soetandyo,” added Vice Dean I FISIP.
After receiving the award, sociologist Imam expressed his appreciation to FISIP UNAIR academician for the award. He never thought he would receive the award.
“To be frank, I am honored knowing that I was awarded. The award is really prestigious. For me, it is a symbolic award for struggles made by campus academician and social and human right activist who is dedicated, sincere and consistent as the figure of Profesor Soetandyo Wignjosoebroto,” said Imam.
The awarding ceremony of scholarship and Soetandyo award has been done since 2015 during anniversary of FISIP. Last year, the scholarships were given to ten awardees and the award was received by Legal Anthropologist, Prof. Sulistyowati Irianto.
Dean of FISIP Dr. Falih Suaedi in his speech stated that the 39 year-old faculty will always develop transparency, synergy and kinship to create healthy academic climate.
“Until 2020, we will keep developing transparency, synergy in a kinship spirit. Hopefully it brings extraordinary result. We promote pluralism, democracy and justice as Prof. Tandyo wished,” said Falih.
“There are 13 programs in FISIP. Curriculum will be improved to maintain addressing each other. Integrated social science as Pak Tandyo dreamed,” added Falih.
