UNAIR NEWS – Chief of Ethic Council of General Election in Indonesia Prof. Dr. Jimly Asshiddiqie, SH., suggested that the young generation should not be in despair because of many problems the nation faces. As the young generation, they should make a choice rather than be apathetic.

What to do, what should you do. And the choice should be from optimism not apathy. With optimism, we will find the answer of the question “what to do”, so the objective can be achieved,” said Prof. Jimly.

The former Chief of Constitutional Court in his presentation during Talkshow Super Power of Leadership, held by Indonesian Medicine Student Senate Association in Gra-BIK Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga on Sunday, November 27.

Beside Prof. Jimly Asshiddiqie,  Prof. Dr. Bambang Supriyanto, dr., SpA(K), Chief of Indonesian Medical Council,  also presented a topic,  “Health as Part of National Security”, and there were other speakers, Lieutenant General TNI. Dr. (Cand) I Wayan Midhio, M.Ph.D., Rector of Universitas Pertahanan Indonesia, and Dr. Ario Djatmiko, dr., Sp.B(K). Onk., Expert Council of PB IDI.

In presence of hundreds of Indonesian medical students, Prof. Jimly said to enjoy the flow of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and social media which tend to be free. Despite enjoying it, they should direct their mind to optimism of perspectives they have not seen before. The costumers’ satisfaction perspective on healthcare service, for instance, should be carefully managed.

”Do not only control the foreign doctors coming here, but do our people also look for treatments abroad? I’m afraid when we make them difficult to come here, but the patients look for their treatments abroad. What happens? Patients’ satisfaction should also be surveyed,” he said.

According to the Professor of Administrative Law of Universitas Indonesia, there are a lot of regulations which criminalize the professions. Therefore, professionals should be sensitive and introspective, that the criminalization happens because the costumers expect good service from the professionals.

”It was the first time for me seeing the doctors protest rally, it was also to fight against the criminalization. Why all of these happening, it shows that the government is not good enough in facilitating the professionals, and it is a serious problem,” said Prof. Jimly.

It was elaborated that medicine is a first field of study (in 19th century) which promotes written ethical codes. Then followed by the accountants and the third is legal professional. Therefore, professional doctors are suggested to pay attention to the ethical codes when they provide services.

“As the future doctors, you should also mind this matter and improve the service as the costumer expected. Science and Technology and also Faith should be strong,” he said. (*)
