UNAIR NEWS – Indonesia has a great wealth of microorganisms, flora and fauna and other aspects which can be used to improve medical fields. All of them are representative medium of researches in disease prevention, diagnosis, drug tests, drug production and other researches.
This nation has to be optimistic to lead at global level. Indonesia is rich of herbal plants. It is natural for Indonesia to be the pioneer in herbal medicine development. Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has a lot of experts on herbal medicine. Especially now when UNAIR has Airlangga Health Sciences Institute (AHSI) which facilitates coordination between some important units in medicine and health.
“We also have coordination in each faculty. AHSI is a multi-disciplinary body,” said Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, dr., Sp.PD, K-PTI, FINASIM, Director of AHSI.
Herbal medicine experts from FF UNAIR, Dr. Wiwied Ekasari, Msi., Apt, added that there have been visits from foreign researcher/lecturer/student to her faculty. They wanted to know more about Indonesian herbal wealth which geographically, cannot be found in other places. “UNAIR always receives visits as it can be considered as the leading institution in herbal medicine development,’ she said.
The central government always involved the university if there is a program or a problem in herbal medicine. UNAIR researches are comprehensive. They covered a wide range of diseases and their treatments. “Science development through herbal researches, has central role to develop the nation as the herbal wealth is the local wisdom,” said the woman born in Surabaya, January 22 1969.
The woman with two registered patents, Formulasi Kapsul Fraksi EA Daun Johar Sebagai Obat Antimalaria and Kombinasi Fraksi EA Daun Johar (Cassia siamea Lamk) Terstandard dan Artesunat sebagai Obat Antimalaria, said that the students who chose herbal medicine will continue the development in the future.
