41 HI UNAIR Students Participate in Sports Competition in Malang

UNAIR NEWS – International Relations students of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Airlangga were quite enthusiastic to participate in International Relations Olympic Sports(IROS) 2016 held by (HMJ) HI, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

There were 41 students, consisting 39 players and 2 managers, participating in various  sports competition, futsal, basketball and badminton. Some other students of HI UAIR were also present to give their supports.

The sports event between universities was held for three days, from Friday to Sunday, November 17-19 2016. It was held in GOR Rajabasa (badminton), and Champions Futsal (futsal and basketball).

Students from many universities took part. Beside UNAIR, there are also participants from  Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Surabaya, Universitas Jember, Universitas Udayana, and Universitas Mataram.

It is an annual event of Indonesian International Relations Students Communication Forum FKMHII) Region VI which covers East Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara. “IROS 2016 felt really different, especially from UNAIR HI students as they prepared attributes and gathered supporters for the team,” said Yulyan Maharta Saviar, Chief of  HIMA HI UNAIR.

Unitil the end of the competition, UNAIR students have made some achievements. In men futsal, unfortunately UNAIR team was stopped in qualifying rounds due to tight competition. The qualifying teams were even determined through the most goal scored as all four teams in a group had same points. Women futsal campaign stopped at semifinals after being defeated by UMM 2-0.

Better achievement made by badminton delegation. All UNAIR athletes in badminton were winning. Women single  first place was achieved by Emerald Salamba, first place for women double were Zayyan Khairunnisa and Nazelia Putri, third place men single was Adetya, and third place men double were Atantyo Adigapa and Agung Tri Putra.

In basketball, HI UNAIR won as the first place after defeating all opponents. It was the third time of their success. They also won in IROS 2015 in UNAIR, and IROS 2014 in UPN Veteran Surabaya.

“It is my last year to join this competition in basketball. I was overjoyed that I could win for three times with HI UNAIR. We love you,” said Aldy Firmansyah, HI student at semester 7.
