UNAIR NEWS – If there is a saying which says “Effort never betrays you’, it is appropriately showed six students of Faculty of Law UNAIR which got Runner Up in a national debate competition. The six students were Mega Indah P. (2013), Virga Dwi E. (2014), Dina Mariana (2015), Fransisca M (2013), Sefrina R (2014), and Lia Sutini (2015).
The team was taking part in a debate competition held by Universitas Negeri Surakarta (UNS) on November 9-11, 2016. In the competition they were divided into two teams, debating team and research team.
A month before the competition was held, they had made various preparations, from building an argument between the pros and the cons for each motion, practicing between classes, managing time between assignments and competition preparation. In the competition, they represented Semi Autonomous Board (BSO) Airlangga Young Jurist Society (MYMA), FH UNAIR.
Not only as a runner up, one of the debaters, Virga, was appointed as the Best Speaker in the competition followed by 12 universities, state or private universities in Indonesia.
Nevertheless, their success was because of their supervising lecturer, Dwi Utari Christina Rachmawati S.H., LL.M., who supported them during preparation and the final round. Because of their efforts and supports of many parties, MYMA got the second place.
Dina, one of the team members, was proud of their achievements. They were pessimistic at first, when they were waiting for the announcement for the semifinal rounds, but their pessimism gone after the judges chose them as one of qualifying team for the final.
Dina hoped that, her team’s success motivates and inspires the other FH UNAIR students. So FH UNAIR can get glory at national and international level.
“We were at first pessimistic whether we could qualify to the semifinal or not. The competitions were great. We put in more efforts to get to the final. Hopefully this success inspires and motivates others,” said Dina. (*)
