UNAIR NEWS – Being university students, should be more than just identity, not only from the academic aspect, but the non-academic should also be considered. For these two students, Silvester Sili Teka and Nazyati Syafira, joining Taekwondo club was just the start. They wanted to hone their soft skill through the club organization. There are many views on being in organizations. Some believe that joining organizations will only hamper their academic performances. But many also believe that it will give them many benefits, one of them is by achieving Outstanding student in non-academic.
As experienced by Silvester from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNAIR, he worked hard during his thesis process as the graduation was close and he made it to be the first place in Senior 54kg Men and appointed as “Best Senior Athlete Men” in National Competition Kapolres Semarang Cup held on November 11-13.
“I want to contribute more Taekwondo UKM UNAIR by dedicating something I have never achieved before, the gold medal and the bonus was the best athlete award,” said the student in the last semester.
A student of Faculty of Vocational Studies, Nazyati Syafira, also felt the same when she got the silver in the championship. She said that had intended to participate in the championship for a long time ago, she practiced since then and it was a preparation for this championship. Thus, this great achievement.
“Don’t stop trying and praying as without them everything will be useless,” said Syafira.
This non-academic achievement in UKM, for Silvester was a good soft skill preparation before we go in the professional world and it was also a positive point compared to students who just go to classes. Experince in organization is an important thing to achieve success in the future.
“Strong resolves and will are absolute requirements of achievements. Dedicate yourselves, as dedication always brings achievements,” said Silvester. “So, what else are you waiting for? Pick your organization and make achievements!” he said.
