UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga has collaborated and been chosen as the pioneer of corruption prevention and handling by Transparency International Indonesia (TII) and International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID).
The collaboration signed through a Memorandum of Understanding was a part of efforts made to develop system to prevent corruption. The signing session was held on Thursday, November 10 in Garuda Mukti Hall in the same occasion with the University Assembly of 62nd Dies Natalis of Universitas Airlangga
“We agreed that university good governance is the main requirement to give the public’s right to quality education. Furthermore, we also believe that university which able to deal with corruption in its internal management is the most qualified to educate their students to have anti-corrupption commitment,” said the general secretary of TII Dadang Trisasongko.
“It is like a process of learning by example. Only a trustworthy university has the authority to teach honesty to students,” he said.
Dadang hoped that with the MoU, it could develop a preventive system to corruption in the university through preventive system and conflict of interest management. Furthermore, the MoU can strengthen UNAIR credibility in public and other stakeholders.
This collaboration is conducted for a year. There will be formulation to prevention and conflict of interests management guide which can be used by the university management. The guide will be publicized to all academicians.
Meanwhile, Sugeng Bahagijo as the Executive Director of INFID said that, the laws on corruption prevention in Indonesian are complete. But there is late awareness on the importance of university to prevent corruption. UNAIR as one of the best universities has been an example of corruption prevention and conflict of interest management which leads to corruption.
“UNAIR is expected to be a model of conflict of interest prevention. So if UNAIR succeeds it can be implemented in other institution,” said Sugeng.
With the MoU, in the future, the stakeholders of UNAIR will be involved in regulations formulated by INFID, TII and UNAIR. “It is of course to support UNAIR towards world class university,” said Sugeng. (*)
