Minister of Agriculture Appreciates UNAIR Advanced Products

UNAIR NEWS – Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman expressed his appreciation on the research exhibition of Indonesia researchers. It was stated when he was in Indonesia Research and Innovation Expo (IRIEx) 2016 in Airlangga Convention Center, Thursday, November 10.

“I’d like to say congratulations for 62nd Dies Natalis of Universitas Airlangga. If already 62 years, it means it’s matured so they must have produce a lot of great things,” said Amran.

Before expressing his appreciation, symbolically, Amran cut the ribbon to open IRIEx. After that, he was accompanied by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T, Ak., Head of IRIEx Prof. Dr. Suwarno, drh., M.Si., and Head of Academic Product Development Institute and Intellectual Property Right Prof. Dr. Sukardiman, M.S., Apt., to inspect the stands in the exhibition, either indoor or outdoor.

The minister inspected UNAIR advanced products, such as herbal plants, cows, goats, shells and sheep. During the inspection, Amran expressed some request for the herbal plants (toga).

“I want UNAIR to develop these researches. If it can be developed, inflation, poverty and cost of living can be suppressed,” said Amran.

Head of IRIEx Prof. Suwarno was proud for appreciation from the minister. Prof. Suwarno stated that even though UNAIR does not have faculty of agriculture, UNAIR has Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH),and Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).

“We have Excelzyme (fertilizer) which can help Indonesian farmers. We also have frozen cement which can be used for cow farms. The minister even wanted to improve production of UNAIR frozen cement with his support,” said the lecturer of FKH UNAIR.

Belong to Indonesia

In his speech, UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih stated that this research exhibition is an opportunity for higher education, private and government institutions to display their products.

“Through the exhibition, we’ll show them to the nation as what we achieve now is from the people’s money. We use the money for research, and these are the results. It is not UNAIR’s expo but Indonesian expo,” said Prof. Nasih.

Regarding the advanced products, as planned, on Monday, November 14 in Airlangga Convention Center, Minister of research, Technology and Higher Education, M. Nasir will be present and witness directly the presentation of UNAIR researchers’ bioproducts to the industrials.

General Director of Research Reinforcement and Development Kemenristekdikti RI Muhammad Dimyati who was present in the opening ceremony of IRIEx also expressed appreciation to UNAIR. UNAIR is at the sixth of 25 independent cluster based on its research performances. But while UNAIR makes achievements, our nation competitiveness was going down.

“The parameter is innovation as innovation category improves. It means university’s research have shown their performance. But if we see as a whole, science and technology in Indonesia have not been placed at its true place. We must work hard and show that science and technological aspect of have made significant products and measure in the development,” he said.

IRIEx event was attended by 70 stands. They were from universities, industrials and government. It is a part of 62nd Dies Natalis of Universitas Airlangga commemoration themed “62 years of Universitas Airlangga for Just and Civilized Indonesia. (*)
