UNAIR NEWS – “Hopefully this Heroes Day could be our turning point. Our heroes at those times pertinaciously sacrificed their body and soul for Indonesia.”
As an appreciation to their sacrifices, the society must follow heroes’ sacrifices in our context nowadays. If our heroes fought for freedom through armed resistance, then the next generation must use the freedom to create and work hard in all aspects and with our own skills.
It was stated by Universitas Airlangga Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak, in his speech “Satukan Langkah untuk Negeri: Jadilah Pahlawan dalam Kehidupan Sehari-hari (Unify Steps for Nation: Be Heroes in your Daily Life)”. It was delivered as a commemoration of Heroes Day, November 10.
In the speech, UNAIR Rector hoped that this Heroes Day can be the turning point to the nation and country’s betterment. “Let’s unify our steps towards Indonesia with social justice for all Indonesians. Let’s realize the just and civilized Indonesia,” said UNAIR Rector.
Prof. Nasih stated some important messages to the audience. First, the next generation should not forget the heroes’ service who have struggled for Indonesia. Second, quoting John F. Kennedy, the people should not only demanding government policies but also doing goodness and being useful for others.
“Don’t only enjoy, but fight as well. It’s the true meaning of Heroes Day,” said Pro. Nasih.
The flag hoisting ceremony for Heroes Day, November 10 was held in Campus C Management Office Building UNAIR. It was presided by UNAIR Rector and ran solemnly. Students, staff and lecturers follow the proceeding attentively. (*)
