Menkop UKM RI Appreciates UNAIR Creative Economy Week and Cultural Festival

UNAIR NEWS – Indonesian Cooperatives and Small and Medium Entreprises Minister (Menkop UKM) Drs. A.A Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, appreciated an event of creative economy week and cultural festival held by Universitas Airlangga to celebrate its 62nd Dies Natalis. He expressed his appreciation when he was opening the event in Grand City Mall Surabaya, Tuesday, November 1.

The minister said that cultural products’ exhibitions are rarely held in a mall. The exhibition presented 20 UKM products such as traditional puppet dolls, keris and batik. Three of them are Indonesian cultural products acknowledged as world’s heritage by UNESCO.

”We appreciate this event held by UNAIR, cultural exhibition with keris, batik and wayang in a mall is a new concept. I appreciate this cooperation of the mall with UNAIR, if possible please follow up further,” said the minister.

Menkop UKM said that he is rarely invited in an event of cultural festival held in a mall like that occasion as malls are identical with exclusive, luxurious and branded products.

Surely, creativity is needed to develop cultural products Indonesia have, creativity needs ideas. Cultural activist generation must be able to create products collaborated with technology and knowledge. So there is creativity which makes it interesting in this modern era.

“I appreciate what the rector stated that it should be given a touch of creativity as with it, capital will follow and marketing will be easier,” he added.

Meanwhile, UNAIR Rector Prof. Moh Nasih, MT., SE., Ak said that this creative economy week and cultural festival was a bit different than the previous one. It was held outside UNAIR with selected products. UNAIR is trying to promote creation. Furthermore, there was also a script writing competition in this 62nd UNAIR Dies Natalis with a title “Prabu Airlangga”.

“We are holding a competition. We’ll announce the winner in the near future. Script on Airlangga story can be patented and publicized,” he said.

The competition was participated by dozens of Art and Culture activists, some of them were dalang who have been in art performances, theatrical artist and author. (*)
