UNAIR NEWS – After the success of last professors’ innovation exposition themed “Democracy and Justice: Dreams to be Realized”, this time Universitas Airlangga will hold similar event themed“Back to Nature: Herbal Medicine as an Alternative to Health without Side Effects”.

Three UNAIR competent professors invited are Prof. Mangestuti Agil, Apt., M.S. of Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR , Prof. Dr. Suhartati, dr., M.S. of Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR and Prof. Hery Purnobasuki., Drs., M.Si., Ph.D of Faculty of Science and Technology UNAIR. It is going to be held in  Kahuripan Hall 300, October 27 and moderated by Prof. Dr. Sukardiman, Apt., M.S.

There are various reasons why Herbal Medicine was chosen as the topic of discussion. First, Indonesian biodiversity’s wealth, especially on plants which can be used for medicinal purposes. Second, germ resistance which is improving against pharmaceutical products. Therefore, back to nature slogan is being promoted by pharmaceutical scientists.

“This topic is closely related with health problems and diseases in Indonesia. Let’s look them up again and go back to nature. Hopefully, this resistance problem can be solved,” said Dr. Bimo Aksono, drh., M.Kes, Secretary of PIH UNAIR.

Back to Nature theme will be discussed in three aspects. First, the application of herbal plants to deal with health problems. Second, the latest development on herbal medicine. Third, vast diversity of potential plants used as herbal medicine.

Through this professors’ innovation exposition, Bimo hoped that UNAIR’s professors can contribute scientifically to provide solutions to health problems in Indonesia especially, fake drugs problem and drug resistance which actually can be treated with medicine from nature. Besides, he also hoped that the society is being more aware on plants with great potentials for medicinal purposes.

“Hopefully, through this event, professors in UNAIR can contribute to health issues, especially related to drug resistance and fake drugs through medicine from nature. It is important to go back to nature, those problems may be avoided,” he said.

Participants of this event are from many elements, from medical staff of hospitals in Surabaya, herbal medicine research centers, academicians of Surabaya , lecturers or students, which study similar topic, practitioners of health to big scale or traditional herbal medicine entrepreneurs. “We promote back to nature, but also healthy and hygienic,” said Bimo.
