NEWS UNAIR – The idea of importing professors stated by the Ministry of Reseach, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) was responded positively by UNAIR Rector Prof Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih, MT., SE., Ak, CMA. Interviewed by some journalists in his room on Wednesday, October 19, the man born in Gresik stated that as long as the state universities are not burdened by the budget, there is no reason to be afraid. Most importantly, do not let their presence hampering the professorship awarding to their own academicians.
Prof. Nasih said that the presence of professors from other countries will give positive impacts. They can conduct researches or publications with the universities’ academicians. So lecturers with doctorate can get the benefit and the process for them to be professors will be accelerated. The knowledge transfer from the ‘imported’ professors will boost and be the catalyst of the universities.
“Their present for research and publication can be a way to trigger the local professors’ envy. It means that the professors in the universities who rarely conduct researches with their juniors will be more sensitive. If they are not jealous and sensitive on the other countries’ professors’ presence, their love to this alma mater should be questioned,” he said.
As known publicly from the media, Menristekdikti M. Nasir suggested to invite 500 professors from other countries. He believed that it will trigger academic climate in all aspects of the universities. If the suggestion implemented, there will be at least six to ten professors invited to UNAIR.
If it happens, the sectors or faculties like Humanities need more professors for research and publication improvement. The foreign professors’ presence will also improve international networking.
“Even, if we are given fifty professors, we are ready. As longas, once again, we do not have to allocate our budget for them. Just imagine, if from the fifty professors we can publish 100 titles a year, and the researches were conducted with our doctors, it will bring a great benefit,” he said. (*)
