HIMA FKM UNAIR Banyuwangi Promotes Health and Anti-Smoking

UNAIR NEWS – Health promotion in public, especially on personal hygiene, is being incited by Banyuwangi Public Health Assosiation (B-PHA) SAS (Society, Art and Sport) division in PDD Banyuwangi. B-PHA is an organization of Faculty of Public Health (FKM)  students in PDD UNAIR Banyuwangi.

Like the last publicization they held last week, they promoted environmental health and on how to suppress smoking habit. The target were teenagers, adults and elderly along the neighborhood of Kramat RT 03/RW 03 in Kertosari, Banyuwangi, where there are 97 families.

According to Saiful Aziz Setyawan, the deputy of the simultaneous publicization (Soser), it was B-PHA program from Society, Art and Sport division in order to identify a community health problems, and this time was held in Kramat, Kertosari.

”The theme of the event was Green And Clean which aim to improve the locals’ knowledge on reusing garbage by preserving the surrounding environment after paying attention to self,” said Ogis Mega Pratiwi, the head of the organizer of Soser 2016, while added that the event was participated by 83 students and divided into 20 groups consisting FKM students from class 2014, 2015 and 2016.

An activist and practitioner of environmental health, Dr. Bintari, who gave presentation on garbage, explained that social event like this should be compulsory activity for Public Health Program students of FKM UNAIR PDD Banyuwangi. It was also the next publicization held after the previous one on The Day Without Tobacco (HTTS).

Meanwhile, Yogi Yhuwono, Head of B-PHA UNAIR confirmed that there was something different from this soser. All FKM students’ involvement including the freshmen and other program representatives made the program livelier.  The event was started by social service by cleaning the environment supported by Tunas Muda Airlangga (TMA) and the locals while publicization was the main event.

”The Soser organization mechanism was done by visiting the locals’ houses. So the facilitator of the the publicization were also students divided into some groups, while the publicization technique was done by questionnaire calculation,” said Yogi.

Rizky Bagas Ardiansyah, aged 19, a student participating in this publicization, hoped that the activity can be done continuously for the next few years, as it can improve the community knowledge, promote awareness on the environments and cause the community to pay attention to individual health and stop smoking habit.
